A good friend of mine, Darren Snell, first introduced me to Muaythai in Calgary in 1999. He was a fighter for Ajarn Mike Miles and after talking about it for a while, I decided to go with him to a few fight cards and from that moment on I was hooked!I started training in 2005 with my older 2 sons as something that we were able to do together. As time went on, their interests changed but the Art of 8 Limbs grew on me and I continued training.
For 5 years I trained at Mike Miles under the direction of Ajarn Miles, Scott Clark, Jesse Miles, Sandra Bastian, Jason Cutbill, Jason Jillian and many, many others. In 2010 we relocated to BC and I started training Kickboxing under Paul Lalonde.
I enjoyed Kickboxing, but Muaythai had its hooks in me. I then sought out Kru Jason Fenton, who I had seen fight in Calgary many years earlier back in the late 90’s as he was one of Ajarn Mikes top fighters at the time. Little did we know that we would become business partners and good friends many years later.
After moving to Chilliwack in 2012, it was apparent that there were no gyms that solely focused on Muaythai in the Fraser Valley, so I made the decision to open my own Muaythai School. One of the other influencing factors that drove me to open this school was teaching and coaching kids has always been a passion of mine. Whether it was coaching soccer for 3 years, coaching football for 6 years, or becoming the President of Bikers Against Child Abuse for 3 years – I absolutely love helping kids.
The main focus of this school is to bring the best standard of teaching in Muaythai possible to our members. With Kru Jason as our mentor we are able to offer just that. Combined that high level of teaching with a professional facility and top-notch equipment – makes for the gold standard for Muaythai in the Fraser Valley.
Opening this school would not have been possible without the love and support of my family. My wife Seanna and our 4 boys – AJ, Austin, Maxwell and Tyler – have always been at my side and been my motivation for everything I do. Of course, our granddaughter Rune provides her grandpa with the drive be the best person he can be.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported this school and made it what it is today. We have built a strong community of martial artists who have embraced Muaythai and its traditions. We will continue to bring the highest quality of Muaythai instruction to our members, and will champion the promotion of Amateur Muaythai in BC.
